SAAC Meeting Minutes, January 28th, 2007, by Katherine Pettine

JPJ Dining Update
Billie Jo emailed full scholarship athletes and got feedback; then met with Jim Booz
-Jim said Athletic 50 might be possible for next year if there is sufficient demand
-Also on average, her survey suggested that full scholarship athletes had 25-30 unused meals left at the end of the semester

Gear Donation
Sarah Kirkwood contacted Salvation Army about gear donation
Contact is Jane Bass, manager 434-979-5230
- Met with Jim Booz who assured her there are no compliance issues, just can't give to high schools
-Will set up a box in a central location, and Salvation Army will do pick up monthly
-Location undecided.. possibly Life Skills Center

ACC Conference Call
Sportsmanship Award...is the new format being adopted by teams?
Also: be sure teams are voting for sportsmanship, not the weakest team.

All-Athlete Spring Event
-No go on Wild Wings catering in JPJ
-Leaning towards maybe baseball game now instead of basketball
-4/15 (Sunday) possible date
-reserve a suite and get wings to cater?
-Hats, t-shirts, or cups for giveaway.....probably hats if we do a baseball game

Canned Food Drive competition with Va Tech SAAC
-March 1 for Virginia Tech basketball game
-Possible can collection in Life Skills Center so cans don't have to be transported to the game and collection can begin earlier
-need people to man collection tables at the game
-Contact is Val Morini

Hoo Crew/BBall ticket problems
-go to women's games to get extra points
-ticketing is on a lottery system based on points
-join hoo crew for your best shot at getting tickets

Black History Month Athletics Dinner
2/27 Tuesday @ 7pm
-speaker is Paul Gaston (history professor)
-RSVP format

Academic Excellence Dinner
-sometime in April
Graduation Dinner
-is this still happening?

Honor Roll Recognition at Saturday, Feb. 3, M Basketball game
-Don't need a ticket, name is on a list, but need to arrive to game by 7:30 (30min before start)

SAAC Meeting Mins. 09.03.06

MEETING

1. Craig Littlepage spoke about expectations for student athlete behavior.
a. Student Leaders should take the message back to teams that we need to be responsible and representative of the program, not make selfish decisions and to think about consequences.
b. Be aware that newspaper writers and employers check court records, face book, my space, etc. everyday.
2. Jim Booz: JPJ dining/ parking
a. New facility, how is it affecting student athletes?
b. Access
i. SID card, or with biometrics system.
c. Parking
i. Information given in compliance meetings will allow compliance to issue parking permits for those who have vehicles.
ii. Green passes will be used to park at the track grass lot and the cage lot.
iii. There are 400-500 athletes with cars, not enough spaces
1. Carpool
2. not for parking to come to the event
3. Bus system will continue when events are at JPJ, not as frequent though
d. Meal Plans at JPJ
i. Appeals process for those who are required to purchase meal plan
1. Realized we were informed late for budget reason, can submit a monthly budget to be reviewed
2. this will be the only year for the appeals process, next year will be mandatory
ii. Concerns
1. Can there be a plan with fewer meals per semester. 50?
2. Dietary needs?
a. What will be done to accommodate lactose intolerant, specific diets?
3. Time demands; are the hours 5-8 not enough to allow athletes enough time to eat?
4. Suggestion forms will be set up in dining hall
5. Opening facility on weekends?
a. Good recruiting tool
b. Many athletes with Saturday practice
6. Crosswalk, looks as though there may be on in progress between McCue and JPJ
7. Cannot bring regular students to dining hall
